Verge discussion

Seem to have started a Verge storm. ;)

Full disclosure: I have only attended 1/2 of a H & F meeting (pre-Verge), so not overly invested or opinionated. I was just trying to tweet that I thought it was an interesting development to try to screen attendees a bit. I have heard from many people that it was getting a bit “business networky” (think real estate guys, people constantly promoting their own business, etc.) and it seems like this goes back to what I saw as the original purpose. Verge can have any mission and/or purpose the organizers/members feel like, so I could be wrong. In any case it seems like keeping it focused is a good thing. Didn’t turn me off at all. If anything, I think the event is more interesting now because it is more targeted and I am in the target market.

@jamespaden: figured it was the case to just list your interest in area, the organizers would know most people in the space or at least give them a chance. Thanks for that idea!

@hunckler: sorry, out of town on Friday afternoon for the weekend. Maybe earlier / later? Again, not sure my voice would be helpful as I haven’t attended much.

Maybe another filter is “have you worked at a startup recently?” Is it just founders, or early stage employees as well? Overall I’m fine with the question as-is, and hope that people will use their best judgment. Hope this longer form helps clarify what I was thinking.
